De la Loi du Contraste Simultane des Couleurs by Michel-Eugene Chevreul
De la Loi du Contraste Simultané des Couleurs by Michel-Eugène Chevreul is a groundbreaking treatise on color theory, first published in 1839. In this masterwork, Chevreul, a chemist and director of the dyeing department at the Gobelins Manufactory, meticulously analyzed how colors influence each other when placed side by side, introducing principles that would later shape Impressionism, Pointillism, and modern design.
His discoveries revolutionized not only painting but also textiles, printing, and industrial design, offering a scientific approach to visual perception. However, despite the significance of his work, Chevreul lacked the printing capabilities in 1839 to fully realize his vision with high-quality reproductions of his color experiments.
Recognizing its enduring importance, Giuseppe Marino, through Art Center Editore Roma, produced and printed a new edition in 1987, ensuring that this seminal text could reach contemporary scholars, artists, and designers with the quality it originally deserved.
